I’ve been checking out a bunch of young female musicians this morning, pretty little things who’ve been signed by people big enough in the music biz to make you sit up and take notice. As much as I wanted to find something there, I came away feeling pretty empty. I don’t know why, but it mostly looks like life has been too easy on these self-interested little wannabes for me to give a shit about what they have to say.
Luckily, I just remembered an artist I picked up on a couple of months ago but never got around to blogging, and now I’m really excited to be able to share her with you. Her name is Martyna Baker and she is a soul singer and song writer from England who has the kind of depth that got me making comparisons to an early India Arie, Erykah Badu, or Lauryn Hill. She’s doing plenty of live gigs thanks to a loyal but pretty small fan base, but I think that is destined to change this year, what with her EP being totally free and totally great. I’ve embedded it below for y’all and I promise there won’t be a better way to start your week. Apart from winning the lottery maybe. Then this is totally the second-best thing after that.

this delish!
